Soo my financial situation has me back on the slave ship of freelancing. Using my spare time to fill up my portfolio. Finally managed to get something done. Idea sketches and single type development.

day 56-71

Phew! Finally! I spent too much time on this, but i think it was worth it. There's a bunch of stuff that's wonky but over all im pleased with it. I'll spend this weekend touching up this and two or three other works so i can submit them for expose. And then it\s back to the usual schedule from Monday. I have to add a few (well more than a few to be honest) more pages to my portfolio. I will probably work for another week in April on this but that's the end of the line , after that i have to start sending out what ever i have because i'll be broke soon. Real soon.

Days 46 trough 54


Updates ! :) Ok so the deadline for this years expose submissions is fast approaching and i really really reaaaaally want to get in so i decide to give my self a few days off schedule to produce something remotely worthy of entering. Naturally i chose my strongest point which at this point are characters. I still see stuff that need to be done on the demon dude (a bit wonky left leg etc) but for now i'm satisfied and i have to move on to keep my sanity. I'll do a final pass next week before submitting it (and hopefully a couple of other works)

The landscape is a re work of a crapy drawing i did about four years ago. Fun exercise , not bad to see how and if you progressed in time. Not finished just 1.5 h in.

Days 39 trough 45

Ok so i had a bit of a melt down. I guess i just got over saturated with work so i started producing stuff that was simply crap. So i took two days off and i'm glad to say it worked and i came back swinging. This stuff is definitely going in to my protf and i would seriously at this point not feel ashamed to show this to a potential client. Especially when i make better page layouts and add the rest of ''idea'' sketches on the page.

Day 38

Interior! :D Pushing my self to do scenes for now. I bought a notebook because i have this weird tendency to have these like flashes of great scene ideas while i'm eating/sleeping/pooping what ever, so i carry it around with me now and i scribble down an idea every time it pops in to my head. This is semi finished , i'll detail it up before i put it in my portf.

Day 36&37

Worked on this over the weekend and today. My goal was to produce something that looked cool, even if everything wasn't totally ''correct''. With my mind a bit more loose i was finally able to produce something i think looks cool. It has a ton of work to be done if its going to be presentable but for now it's done. I want to pump out as much of these ''ideas'' as i can and then work on polishing them later.

day 33 and 34

Finally better health wise. Yesterday was arh. day so i tried to do a concept for a rts type of game. While it's technically ok i guess it seems pretty boring to me now. Especially compared to these ships i just did. While they too have tons more work to be done on them they some how seam ''cooler'' i guess.  It seems that my mind i still preoccupied with technical stuff when i do these so the design suffers. Oh well i guess it just means more practice.

I got the flue! YAAY! :( God damn it. Battling with fever for a couple of days now. Felt a little better today so i managed to get some work done. It's character day so i decided to go easy on my self today. Just two line drawings of a classical space marine dude. Light and upgraded version ..sort of...

Day 25

Oooh we, what a day :)  I started the day with one goal in mind, to conquer my demon called perspective. I am happy to report that the battle was won! I downloaded a fantastic tutorial from ctrl+paint

Best 10$ i ever spent. (If by any chance someone looking for advice actually ends up reading this please note that i chose the second part of the tutorial because i all ready had a pretty good grasp of what perspective was and how to use it, just not on this scale.So if you are someone just getting in to the whole drawing business  it would be a good idea to start with the first one and/or the rest of the free tuts on this great site..and others for that matter..)

While it didn't contain anything i didn't already know it gave me fantastic step by step approach that i could use and all my fears went away when i started the first sketch. While i am pretty satisfied with how these turned out , the design is a bit lacking because my mind was still preoccupied with this whole perspective thing. But i am now confident that after doing about 10-15 of these in the next few days i'll get comfortable with it and start to focus more on the design part.

Day 12

 GUNS GUNS GUNS :D So i reserved Friday for doing weapons,ships, vehicles and such. Last time around i had to skip this because of the whole architecture situation. This kind of stuff is something i'm pretty comfortable with so i allocated the least amount of time for it so i can concentrate on the problematic areas. it was a fun day :)
I'll refine some of these tomorrow , and try to use sketchup or softimage to get a base model for some.
